    The Mercedes GLA is one of the latest models in the German manufacturer's range to get the electrification treatment, sharing its plug-in hybrid drivetrain with the smaller A-Class. It's aimed squarely at other small premium SUVs with similar petrol-electric power, including the BMW X1 xDrive25e, Volvo XC40 Recharge and Range Rover Evoque PHEV. Our new presenter Grace gets behind the wheel to see how the Merc stacks up...

    Great review! Really concise :) Just curious, the model you are driving seems to have the red AMG stitching in the cockpit however online it seems that Mercedes don't offer the 250e with that AMG stitching, what exact model is this? Thanks

    Trying to compare with xc40... You say boot is 385L but that is with the shelf down and Merc lists the boot as being 445L. So that's very close to the xc40 - unless they all measure differently.... Wouldn't mind a proper boot comparison and seeing some hefty family suitcases go in!

    Grace Webb is a great presenter. Hope to see more videos by her in the near future. Surprised that there hasn’t yet been a full review of the Volvo XC40 Recharge or a first drive of the MB EQA on this channel. Perhaps these cars are already scheduled to be reviewed in the coming weeks.

    Very important question with a car like this - how does it produce heat for the cabin when in full electric mode? I ask because the Volvo XC60 PHEV actually has a webasto for cabin heat, so even in "Pure" electric mode it actually burns petrol for heat(very little, but still). On the other hand, electric heaters destroy battery life. So which one is it here?

    • @GrrMeister

    I'm not a fan of this car, but I get irked when reviewers test plug in hybrids in the same way as they do petrol/diesel cars.
    There is a learning curve with a plug in hybrid.
    If a manufacturer stated 50 MPG for a petrol car and you got 42 ish then yes, that would be totally within the realms of automotive exaggeration.
    But to claim 200+ and you get 40 ish.... You should realise that you are doing something wrong, or don't understand the concept..
    My Outlander PHEV yields 300+ MPG, why? I charge it regularly and do less than 25 miles per day. 98%l of my motoring is done on electric. I only use a bit of petrol now and again to stop it from going stale..
    I'm _sure_ I could eek out even better economy in this Merc.

    • @gambiting
      @gambiting 3 года назад +2

      Where did that 80% figure come from? If most of your journeys are within that 30 mile range, it will be like 5% of ICE if any at all.

  • @GrrMeister
    @GrrMeister 3 года назад

    1:25 *Get real under lockdown limiting you to 5/8 Miles you will get 100,000 MPG - joking aside 85% of journeys are less than 30 Miles so great for that, but if want to take a longer trip you have the means. However factor in the extra cost Circa £6000 and will take many years before anywhere near break even - £40K EG.*
